How does PTECH work?
PTECH puts students on a career path designed to meet the real needs of Idaho industries. This can include online coursework while in high school, community college degree and certificate programs, and specialized training such as a code schools and on-site internships. The program produces qualified graduates ready to fill well-paying jobs that meet the needs
of Idaho’s employers. Students are supported on a path to these careers beginning in high school and continuing after graduation at no cost.
Choose a career path
Our hands-on reinvention of Career Day introduces students and parents to PTECH careers with immersive activities, career navigation tools, and face time with industry representatives.
PTECH + COLLEGE ENROLLMENT
Students are automatically enrolled in community college when they are accepted into PTECH at the end of 10th grade. Tackling college enrollment early eliminates the stress of the application process—and gives students a good option for a future job.
Stay on a path to college
EARLY COLLEGE COURSEWORK
Students take a mix of regular high school classes and work with an on-campus PTECH Facilitator to complete early college coursework online.
ONLINE GUIDANCE AND SUPPORT
Each student is paired with a PTECH Advisor to guide them via video chat, text, or email. Access to the PTECH Portal online tool makes it easy to track progress, look for jobs and internships, or connect with other students and support.
SUPPLEMENTARY SKILL BUILDING
Monthly PTECH Challenges are an opportunity to work in teams with other students to build the interpersonal skills that attract employers.
GRADUATION WITH A GOAL
To build momentum and gain valuable on-the-job experience before starting college, students participate in a job shadowing or internship opportunity in their chosen industry.
Get a job
Students continue to meet with their PTECH Advisor as they adjust to community college, and work with a PTECH Recruiter to consider career options.
THE PTECH PACKAGE
Students leave community college with the complete PTECH Package, including relevant certificates for their industry, and/or an associate’s degree, and – most importantly – a job!
